Sept 26 Playlist + The Beatles White Album

http://wvkr.radioactivity.fm/playlist.html?djoid=1633&date=09-26-2008

I gotta get me a way to post my shows on the web like Primitive George started doing. www.theprimitiveshow.com I wanna be like Georgie! I wanna be like Georgie!

OK, so Friday's show....a little different. The result of taking the morning off, surrounded by dismal drizzle and the taste of the week's economic and political news fresh in my mouth. Had a really upbeat, poppy peppy 60s show all lined up for the opening segment, but umm....come crunch time, just wasn't feelin' it.

So I did what I usually do when I'm feeling a little down--I went through my record collection. The LPs this time, not the 45s. And there were all these great rock albums from the 60s (yes, I'm so anal I have them ABC'd by decade). In particular, I found these great discs from 1968 that I don't usually play on my show and I felt like they just NEEDED to be heard on a day like Friday! So out with the original playlist and in with the new. The response was positive, but then there's no way to tell if you listened, got turned off, and turned the radio off. If you did, I'd love to know that too!

Speaking of Primitive George, he played a couple cuts from "The Beatles" (aka The White Album, as you all know). Geez, did that bring back memories! And not pleasant ones. "Sexy Sadie." "Everybody's Trying To Hide Except Me And My Monkey." And I made a comment on the air about how that album is one of the most overrated pieces of crap ever commited to vinyl. One of you called to support that theorum; another took me to task.

So I went back and looked at the track listing. Hmm...WAS I being hasty? A good half of the album is classic! USSR, Prudence, Guitar Weeps, Blackbird, I Will, Helter Skelter, Birthday (before it got ruined by DJs using it to announce celebrity birthdays and such) and of course Revolution, the good one . (i mean "Number 9" is interesting once. That's it.)

But Piggies? Ob La Di? Bungalow Bill? Warm Gun? Rocky Raccoon? WHY DONT WE DO IT IN THE ROAD???? Yuk. Call it innovative, progressive, full of hidden meaning, I call it bloated and pretentious.

Plus I associate the abysmal "Hey Jude" with "The Beatles" because they were out at the same time. Good song, just goes on too long. Right? (SPOILER ALERT: Warning, I WILL talk over the nah nah nah nahhhs when it's time to play it in a few weeks!)

A lot of the other songs I don't recognize by the titles, so maybe they're not so bad either. "The White Album" is one of the most controversial albums of all time in terms of love it or hate it. Where do YOU stand? Am I totally off here? I say let's just make it a SINGLE album (which we can do thanks to 2008 technology as opposed to 1968) and leave it at that. Agree or disagree publicly by posting a comment or emal privately lostoldies@yahoo.com

Again thanks for listening and THANK YOU to those who pledged to WVKR and who have sent in their donation. Your swag is on the way!

Hope you got to catch the show this week. I thought it was mighty darned good!

http://wvkr.radioactivity.fm/playlist.html?djoid=1633&date=09-19-2008

A double dose of 1968 since we missed last week because of the pledge drive.

Again, a big THANK YOU to all who took the time to donate to WVKR; those of you pledged during my show are acknowledged in the post below. Pledge forms should arrive in your mailbox any day now.

Hey I forgot to mention that "Peter Clark's Orphanage Of Rock And Roll" will make a rare non-Thursday appearance on VKR this Wednesday from 6 to 8pm filling in for "Regional Frequency."

Speaking of Wednesdays, Barrett's "Rhythm And Blues Review" is back airing 2 to 4 pm. Be sure to check him out!

Now for my Rants and Raves....Great shows from both Nick and Primitive George today--no surprise--but what's up with Eatabone AND Vince not showing up for their slots???? Not that we don't love our Lyn the She Devil, but come on, guys, Fridays are just not complete without you. STOP TAKING OFF!

WVKR Pledge Drive--YOU ROCK!

I am absolutely blown away by the support listeners of "The Lost And Found Oldies Show" have shown in this year's WVKR annual Pledge Drive! You don't know how good it felt to hear those phones ringing, and to have both phones going at once, well, I am humbly in awe that you think so highly of the show to take the time to call.

You generous people recognize the value in public community supported radio not restricted by focus groups and corporate sponsored research. For that I heartily thank you!

I do not have an official dollar amount pledged during 3 to 5 Friday, but suffice to say it was more than last year and in a time when finances are as tight for folks as they've ever been!

And if Jolly Joel Tyner and Jonny Eatabone wanna throw down a challenge, well, all the better, though I didn't pull in the $2000 dollars you were sayin', guys. Almost, but not quite.

Kudos to my fellow DJs for their efforts in keeping WVKR on the air for at least another year. Below are the names of the people whose names I received as pledging their support.

I apologize if you pledged during my show and don't see your name; this is merely the list I was handed. Please Email lostoldies@yahoo.com or post a comment below if you were inadvertently omitted and I'll be happy to recognize your contributions.

For those of you that wanted the 3CD premium for your $75+ pledge, rest assured you will receive one pending receipt of your donation.

Again, hearty thanks and keep listening to "The Lost And Found Oldies Show" Fridays 3 to 5pm on WVKR 91.3 FM www.wvkr.org !!!

September 5 Playlist + WVKR Ramblings

http://wvkr.radioactivity.fm/playlist.html?djoid=1633&date=09-05-2008

So you noticed the changes in the show Friday, didn't cha? A few more familiar tunes sprinkled in with those rarities you love so much.

I'll never be an "All Hits" show, don't worry, but the popular records mixed in made those oddities made the overall show stronger, I thought. What about you?

And what about this Pledge Drive WVKR is having? Did you check out the website www.wvkr.org and get a load of that Tshirt Logo? What IS that? A rather PC colleague of mine was reminded of "cuts of meat" LOL.

I really hope WVKR does well this year. Other public/community radio stations have way more than one pledge drive per year.

And look at the diversity you get from this lil' ol' station eminating outta Poughkeepsie New York.... Folk! Lounge! Rockabilly! Blues! Garage! New Age! 80s Power Pop! Classic Country! POLKAS fer cryin out loud!

And it's all about the premiums when you pledge during The Lost And Found Oldies Show! Remember that ultra cool "Not Quite Top 91.3 Songs Of 1967" show we did the last 3 weeks in December? A copy of that broadcast--featuring 4 hours of the best of the Summer Of Love and Beyond--is YOURS when you make a minimum donation to WVKR of jsut $75!

My whole show September 12 will spotlight many of those great tunes as an incentive so I DO hope you'll tune in.

Of course, ANY amount is greatly appreciated; rest assured the money goes into the basic maintainence and upkeep of the station, transmitters, equipment and the like.

And finally, a blind item....which VKR personality went on a MAJOR rant recently about the station--off the air, thankfully--using very salty language and condemning the very fact that VKR should even HAVE a pledge drive??? My lips are sealed....

Til next Friday....post a comment of Email privately: lostoldies@yahoo.com
