August 28 Playlist + WVKR Ramblings

Not sure why Blogger won't let me paste the link into these posts anymore but you can still access the playlist here: http://www.wvkr.radioactivity.fm
and check out ALL the great (and not-so-great) playlists WVKR has.

In the GREAT category is the GREAT Primitive George who was really missed and sounded GREAT both shifts he was on this week. Welcome back, G. Thanks for hangin with me during the first half of my show today, too. Appreciate it.

Don't understand why VKR management has not informed us about the pledge drive which is supposed to start Sept. 8! I even asked one of the exec staff today--less than 2 weeks before the pledge drive--AND SHE WASN'T SURE!!! oy.....

Get your requests in for MY portion of the pledge drive. Next Friday September 4 is the culmination of The Summer of '69 so TUNE IN!

Comments welcome at lostoldies@yahoo.com and as always
THANKS FOR LISTENING!

August 21 Playlists + WVKR Musings

Filled in for Primitive George for 2 hours today, allowing me to bring you the Ultimate Summer of '69 playlist. Hope you caught all of it. Google WVKR radioactivity and click on "sammyboy".

Honestly, it was only for fans who have fond memories of the Summer of "69. Played some overdone stuff but it makes sense IN CONTEXT!

But the REAL news is Joel Tyner having Pete Seeger LIVE in the studio today! I noticed a small sign on the studio door and mentioned it throughout the show, but WVKR did not see fit to put the news on its website?! This is insane! Pete was absolutely wonderful and as much as I love The Bachelor Pad, I'm not so sure I would have been able to dismiss the treasure that is Pete Seeger so quickly.

Next Friday is Lost And Found SEVENTIES! Email your suggestions to lostoldies@yahoo.com

Thanks for listening!

Woodstock '69 Playlist + Next Week Preview

Today's show featured every artist (except Quill) who played at Woodstock '69. What other radio program can make that claim? Yet the response was....tepid at best. Yikes. Here's what you heard (or didn't hear):

August 7 Playlist + August 14 Preview

How great to have Sam The Tattoo Man back again programming the music.
Sam is a generous contributor to the annual WVKR pledge drive and brought in tunes that captured the spirit of Woodstock '69 or featured artists that COULDA been there but weren't. I must confess I didn't expect Elvis Costello in the mix, but it WORKED! Miss anything?

Would love to know what YOU thought: lostoldies@yahoo.com

Join me Friday August 14 for at least one hour, maybe more, of Woodstock '69 musical memories featuring songs and artists NOT included on the Original Soundtrack Album.

July 31 Playlist + Next Weeks' Preview

Here's the playlist for this week's Lost And Found Sixties Show: http://wvkr.radioactivity.fm/playlist.html?showoid=1666&date=07-31-2009

I was most excited about some of those rarely heard tracks by acts like The Robbs, The Applejacks, The Ohio Express and The Ides Of March. They're becoming some of my favorite records and I hope the same is true for you.

Glad to get on requests for Mark, Alice and Max. lostoldies@yahoo.com

August 7 will have guest co host Sam The Tattoo Man helping me look back 40 years to Woodstock by bringing in some records by acts HE thinks would've been a good fit for the festival. Hmm...

Then I'll be doing my own Woodstock tribute the following week August 14. Requests welcome.

Off to Philly for a conference. Hopefully I'll check out some used vinyl stores and come back with some great finds to play for ya on future shows.

THANKS FOR LISTENING!

July 17 Playlist 1979 Rock VS Disco: Who Won?

The listneners did!

Today we commemorated 30 years ago July 12, 1979 and Steve Dahl's Disco Demolition Night in Chicago's Comiskey Park. The unofficial death of Disco?

I expected a lot of friction, not to mention down right complaints for playing ~gasp~ DISCO on the show today. Most were appreciative of the mix, except one guy who said, nope, guess 1979 was not a good year for music. WRONG! Most people took a side 30 years ago, either Rock OR Disco, couldn't like both. I, of course, did. Not sure how it sounded all mixed up. Would love YOUR feedback at lostoldies@yahoo.com or leave a public comment.

Remember Friday July 24 it's the Return of Johnny Tremendous and TWO HOURS of 1969 AM Radio Gold handpicked by JT himself. Be there!

Thanks for listening!
